The Cycling Queen, Annemiek van Vleuten, has chosen Tour of Scandinavia as her final international race before she concludes an extraordinary career.
– We are proud that Annemiek chooses to finish her career with us. That is a good indication about how strong our position is in the international cycling community, says CEO Roy Moberg.
Annemiek van Vleuten (40) is a legend in international cycling. Her list of accomplishments is extensive; she has won Olympic and World Championship titles, as well as numerous World Tour races over a period of nearly 20 years.
Last year, she achieved the incredible feat of winning all three Grand Tours: Giro Rosa, Tour de France Femmes, and the Vuelta, in addition to becoming the Road World Champion.
This year, she repeated her success by winning Giro Rosa and the Vuelta, while being beaten by Demi Vollering in Tour de France Femmes.
Van Vleuten has participated in Ladies Tour of Norway multiple times. She competed in the inaugural edition in 2014 and won the overall title in 2021 after a remarkable climb up Norefjell, where she left the rest of the field behind.
– I enjoy the atmosphere and excellent organization of the race. Norway is a beautiful country with great, varied stages set in fantastic scenery, says Annemiek, who is looking forward to returning to Norway and Scandinavia.
– We have built ourselves into a highly attractive World Tour race internationally, and the fact that she chooses the Tour of Scandinavia as the finale of her career is significant, says Moberg.
– This is a strong credit to everyone who has contributed to building our race concept, especially to all the destinations and host communities that contribute to creating the great atmosphere that Annemiek eagerly returns to experience, says Moberg.
Van Vleuten’s Movistar team will face tough competition in this year’s edition of the Tour of Scandinavia. Last year’s winner, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig, as well as many stage winners from this summer’s Tour de France, will be at the starting line.
– The final start list will be available a few days before the opening stage, but we can already reveal that, with one exception, all World Tour teams will be participating with many of their stars, concludes Moberg, who encourages all cycling enthusiasts to get out on the roads and cheer for the world’s cycling elite.
The Tour of Scandinavia will take place over 5 days from August 23rd to 27th, featuring diverse and exciting stages, with three stages in Norway and two concluding stages in Denmark.
All stages can be watched live for 2.5 hours each day on Eurosport1 in Norway, with Norwegian commentators.
