From all of us in Ladies Tour of Norway, we wish all the athletes, teams, sponsors, cooperation partners and everybody who is interested in cycling in general a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
And we are really looking forward to arrange Ladies Tour of Norway in August 2019 again!
Marianne Vos (Waowdeals) made a nearly impossible result by winning all the three stages in this years Ladies Tour of Norway. And this in the same week as she- also won the World Tour-race in Swedish Vårgårda on Monday.
The Dutch super rider answered to a lot of attacks on the final circuit of the 154 km long stage between Svinesund and Halden, going in and out of Sweden several times.
– I was never really worried for the GC, but I had to work really hard at the end, says Vos, who was put under pressure from several teams.
Specially Team Sunweb pressed her with several attack. Gracie Elvin went away in a dangerous break and got nearly 30 seconds lead. Even Annemiek van Vleuten and Amanda Spratt were putting Vos under several attacks.
But Marianne Vos was covering every attempt and when it got close to a final sprint she managed to win her third stage in three days. The American champion Coryn Rivera (Team Sunweb) came closest and secured the last podium place on GC.
Another rider doing a very good race was the Swedish champion Emilia Fahlin (Wiggle High5) who was top-3 on all the stages and ended in a strong 2nd place overall.
All the jerseys were defended on the final stage. Polish rider Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) won the Queen of the Mountains jersey already on the first QOM after Strömstad in Sweden. Italian Chiara Consonni (Valcar PBM) was just holding off the German champion Liane Lippert (Team Sunweb) in the fight for the white jersey to the best young rider.
Susanne Andersen (Hitec Products) was again the best Norwegian with an 11th place. But also Stine Borgli (Norwegian national team) was sitting in the leading group to the end. A strong stage from both.
The special border sprinter at Kornsjø by the last entrance into Norway was won by Denmarks Christina Malling Siggaard (Team Virtu) who was awarded with the special Unions jersey.
Team Sunweb won the team competition when LToN finished off in sunshine and perfect conditions in front of a large audience in the center of Halden.

He is called ”The World’s best announcer” and his CV is not to be matched by anyone in the world. Kjell-Erik Kristiansen is at home when he takes the mikrofon for the third year running at LToN. A lot of the cyclists will recognize his voice from last years World Championships in Bergen and for hundreds of races in Norway and ten years as a commentator for Norwegian Eurosport.
– It’s really fun to get to work with such a big event at home, says the famous announcer from Mysen.
– I’ve been an announcer in 21 different countries and I’ve been doing this for more than 30 years, but it’s very seldom I get to work at home.
And despite 22 years living outside Norway the region of Østfold is home to Norway’s most famous sports announcer. He is raised in Mysen and he came back to Norway some years ago after 15 years in Sweden and 7 years in Finland.
– But it has costed a lot, I do soon have a family i every Nordic country, says Kjell-Erik, who also has a daughter who is a member of the Swedish national cross country skiing team and one who is an active gymnast in Finland.
– But I love my job, it’s more of a lifestyle than a job. Of course it’s hard to travel around 200 days a year for such a long period, but it helps to get to work with something you really love.
It all started with a coincidence through the sport of orienteering at home in Mysen. And it quickly developed through the World Championships skiing in Falun, Sweden 1993 and the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer 1994.
– Now I’ve done 8 Olympic Games, soon 50 World Championships and a bit over 500 World Cup-races in different sports. It’s a fantastic job, I love the excitement and the drama, says the man who is known as ”The Nordic voice” in cross country skiing and biathlon, the two sports he’s been working most with.
– But cycling has always been close to my heart after the family spent two months every Summer in Spain from I was 8 years. I got the taste of Tour de France and later I’ve got to comment the race 10 years at Eurosport beside all the other big races in the world.
Last year he was the announcer for the World Championships in Bergen and meet a lot of the ladies taking part in this years Ladies Tour of Norway.
– It’s special for me with a finish in Mysen again. It’s a little bit me who took the race to this area. The two last years I’ve been a project manager for LToN with my main areas in media and TV-production, says Kjell-Erik, who has also moved his business from Sweden back to Norway.
– Yes, I started a new company in Norway this year, with two others – one being the race director Roy Moberg. We’re working a little more with developing events, media and management than I’ve done before. I feel I do have something to share after 30-35 years in the business and there are not many others knowing as many people in the different sports in Norway than me, says the 58 years old laughing.
And Kjell-Erik is like a potato, you can use him for everything – always prepared. In February he was the voice of the Olympic stadium for biathlon in Pyeongchang, Korea. Last week he did the World Championships logging (chainsaw) and he’s been working with armwrestling, bodybuilding and trotting. But the favorites are skiing, biathlon, cycling and orienteering.

Marianne Vos (WaowDelas) and Emilia Fahlin (Wiggle High5) made a da capo in the Ladies Tour of Norway by taking 1st and 2nd place for the second day in a row at stage 2 between Fredrikstad and Sarpsborg. It was another day with 127 km and a finish on a slightly uphill road. It was also a wet day with a lot of wind where Vos was under attack from several riders on the final laps.
– I really hade to work hard. I noticed already on the second intermediate sprint when we passed the finish line that this was a difficult finish, says Marianne Vos.
– Team Sunweb tried to outnumber me with several attacks and they were racing hard.
But the cycle queen from the Netherlands who won the race last year responded to all attacks and was there when the riders hit the last kilometer.
Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) from Poland opened the sprint, but Marianne Vos had the power to go around her on the last 100 meters and won easier than in Mysen on Friday.
The Swedish champion Emilia Fahlin did another strong sprint just like on stage 1, but the Wiggle High5-rider had to settle for 2nd again. Niewiadoma finished 3rd and she also won the Queen of the Mountain-sprint. She has a good grip of the QoM-jersey after two stages.
The riders had to fight with a lot of wind all the way and at the end they also got some rain.
– But it was not cold, the speed was too high for that and we had to work hard all the way, says the winner Marianne Vos.
She does now have a lead of 18 seconds over Emilia Fahlin, while Niewiadoma who was a teammate with Vos last year. She moved of 15 places to a 3rd overall, 28 seconds a drift of Vos.
On Sunday the longest stage of 154 km between Svinesund and Halden is waiting for the riders. It’s going in and out of Sweden and a lot can still happen. Marianne Vos definitely has to work hard on Sunday to win the race again.
Vos also holds the green points jersey, while Italian Chiara Consonni (Valcar PBM) defended her while jersey as the best young rider. The best Norwegian rider was Susanne Andersen (Hitec Products-Birk Sport) who finished 12th in the leading group.
