Marianne Vos (Waowdeals) made a nearly impossible result by winning all the three stages in this years Ladies Tour of Norway. And this in the same week as she- also won the World Tour-race in Swedish Vårgårda on Monday.
The Dutch super rider answered to a lot of attacks on the final circuit of the 154 km long stage between Svinesund and Halden, going in and out of Sweden several times.
– I was never really worried for the GC, but I had to work really hard at the end, says Vos, who was put under pressure from several teams.
Specially Team Sunweb pressed her with several attack. Gracie Elvin went away in a dangerous break and got nearly 30 seconds lead. Even Annemiek van Vleuten and Amanda Spratt were putting Vos under several attacks.
But Marianne Vos was covering every attempt and when it got close to a final sprint she managed to win her third stage in three days. The American champion Coryn Rivera (Team Sunweb) came closest and secured the last podium place on GC.
Another rider doing a very good race was the Swedish champion Emilia Fahlin (Wiggle High5) who was top-3 on all the stages and ended in a strong 2nd place overall.
All the jerseys were defended on the final stage. Polish rider Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) won the Queen of the Mountains jersey already on the first QOM after Strömstad in Sweden. Italian Chiara Consonni (Valcar PBM) was just holding off the German champion Liane Lippert (Team Sunweb) in the fight for the white jersey to the best young rider.
Susanne Andersen (Hitec Products) was again the best Norwegian with an 11th place. But also Stine Borgli (Norwegian national team) was sitting in the leading group to the end. A strong stage from both.
The special border sprinter at Kornsjø by the last entrance into Norway was won by Denmarks Christina Malling Siggaard (Team Virtu) who was awarded with the special Unions jersey.
Team Sunweb won the team competition when LToN finished off in sunshine and perfect conditions in front of a large audience in the center of Halden.
