The teams in LToN 2018 : Canyon-SRAM in an outsider
German registered team Canyon-SRAM is one of the outsiders in this years LToN. The team have both young and older riders and so far this year they’ve won 12 races. A very exciting starter is newcomer Katarzyna Niewiadoma, the Polish start who helped Marianne Vos to the overall victory for WM3 last year – but this team is not in the peloton anymore.
Niewiadoma has taken the teams only WWT-victory in 2018. She won the Trofeo Alfredo Binda in Italy. This is her only win of the season.
The most winning rider at Canyon-SRAM is Brittish sprinter Hannah Barnes. She has 4 victories in 2018, but she will probably not start in Norway. This makes the teams sprint chances less strong than if Barnes should have been there.
The young German rider Lisa Klein won the best young riders jersey in last years LToN when she also was the German champion. Klein has one victory this year, it was the prologue in Festival Elsa Jacobs in Luxembourg. The 22 year old has changed team from Cervélo-Bigla to Canyon-SRAM this year. She was also 2nd overall in the BeNe Ladies Tour in July, where she also won the best young riders jersey. The big talent won a silver at the TT-race in the U23-ECH in the Czech Republic and she got the bronze medal in the German TT-championships.
Canyon-SRAM was 4th in last Saturdays TTT in Vårgårda, Sweden. This shows the power in the team.
The experience in the team is Trixi Worrack, the 36 year old German who has ”always” been there in the professional peloton. She won the time trial in the BeNe Ladies Tour this year and Worrack has more than 10 years in the worlds elite. In her long career she has silver from the WCH back in 2006, two German championships (2013 and 2015) and she was 4th at WCH as early as in 2004. Trixi Worrack is still holding a high level and she won silver at the German TT-championships this year. This is her third year at Canyon-SRAM.

The teams in LToN 2018 : Wiggle High5 – one of the strongest
Watch out for Wiggle High5 in this years LToN. This is a team who might be dominating the race. They have several cards to play and they have experience and allround-skills.
Italian Elisa Longo Borghini is one of the GC-favorites and Kirsten Wild can beat anybody in a sprint.
26 year old Elisa Longo Borghini was riding three years for Norwegian squad Hitec-Products (2012-2014), but after that she has been with Wiggle High5. She has bronze from both the Olympics and the World Championships and she has won races like the Tour of Flanders, Strade Bianche, La Route de France, Giro dell’Emilia and Trofeo Alfredo Binda.
Longo Borghini is a strong climber and she won the KoM-jersey at the OVO Energy Women’s Tour in Great Britain this year. Wiggle High5 have no less than 19 victories this year.
Four of these victories are taken by Kirsten Wild, the new sprinting queen in the team. She recently won the Prudential Ride London which is also a World Tour-race. Wild did race the LToN also last year, but wasn’t able to win any stages at that race.
A rider with a very good season so far is Emilia Fahlin. The Swede is a veteran in the Ladies Tour of Norway and she is now also the reining Swedish champion after her victory earlier this Summer. They rider from Örebro has 5 victories this season.
The most experienced rider in the team is the 30 year old German Lisa Brennauer. She won the silver at the WCH back in 2014 and this year she won the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour for the second year in a row. She is also the German TT-champion this year. Brennauer is riding her first season for Wiggle High5 after she came from Canyon SRAM. She has also been riding for Hitec-Products in 2010 and 2011.
Wiggle High5 is definitely one of the strongest teams in this years LToN. The question is if they can fight with Boels-Dolmans, Team Sunweb or Marianne Vos in WaowDels. The team has at least a lot of options for success this week.

The teams in LToN 2018 : Hitec-Products fighting on in difficult year
Hitec-Products is Norway’s only professional team for ladies. But this year has been a difficult season with economical problems and less competitions than normal. The hope is now to have success at the Ladies Tour of Norway on home roads. May be by the 20 year old Susanne Andersen, still one of the biggest talents in the world.
It’s the German rider Charlotte Becker who has ”saved” the season so far for Hitec-Products by taking two victories in the World Tour-race at Chongming Island in China. She also won another race on the same tour and is standing with 3 of the teams 6 victories in 2018.
Two of these 6 victories are from the Norwegian championships where Line Marie Gulliksen won the TT and Vita Heine defended her victory in the road race. In Norway the Hitec-Products girls normally are outstanding and it looks like they’re coming with a nearly full Norwegian line-up to
this years LToN.
20 year old Susanne Andersen from Stavanger was an impressive 7th at the WCH road race in Bergen last September. She was also a sensational 2nd at the stage to Sarpsborg in the LToN already in 2016 when she was only 18 years. Can she fight in the top again this year?
Or is Norwegian champion Vita Heine finding the top form in time for the important race at home? It’s clear that this season has been a little bit outside the hopes for Hitec-Products.
A Norwegian victory in the LToN on live Norwegian TV will mean a lot to Norwegian womens cycling. Just look what the success of riders like Thor Hushovd, Kurt-Asle Arvesen, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Alexander Kristoff and others have meant to Norwegian cycling.
For Hitec-Products it’s also a challenge to deliver the results with the unsure situation regarding the teams economy. Some riders like Italian Tatiana Guderzo have already left the team. Emilie Moberg and Katrine Aalerud moved to Team Virtu in Denmark already ahead of this season.

If you don’t have the possibility to be on site to follow this weeks Ladies Tour of Norway there are several ways to follow the race either on TV or on-line on your computer. Norwegian TV2 is sending live from the last part of the stages on Friday, Saturday and Sund and you can follow all four days live on the internet.
It’s new this year that the Ladies Tour of Norway will be held the same weekend as the Arctic Race of Norway for the men. Norwegian TV2 is making a ”superweekend” of cycling where Arctic Race and LToN are transmitted back-to-back in three days. That means 5-6 hours of live cycling every day, something both organizers are hoping will increase the number of viewers.
On Friday Arctic Race is ahead of LToN, while the ladies are first on Saturday and Sunday. Thursday’s team time trial is not shown on terrestrial channels, but a lighter production will be streamed on LToN:s homepage.
Commentators for Norwegian TV2 are Mads Kaggestad and Miriam Bjørnsrud, while Magnus Orre is the reporter on-site. The English stream will be commented by Owan Rogers accompanied by the former Olympic silver medalist Emma Johansson. Race announcer Kjell-Erik Kristiansen’s voice will be on the stream from Thursday’s TTT.
This means that LToN can be followed all over the world also this year. The stream with English commentary will be live and free in most of the world. It’s blocked in USA and Canada, where Flosport TV have the rights for the race and will transmit it through there channels (see below). UCI will probably also transmit the stages Saturday and Sunday live and send the stage on Aelayed. They will also as always show a short summary of all the stages.
Transmissions on Norwegian TV2 main channel (only to be seen in Norway):
Thursday 16. Aug 13:00 – 18:30 TV 2 Arctic Race
